We have been rearing calves and pigs on our farm for generations, but since our new farm was built, we have made the complete switch to Peter's Farm. This husbandry is designed in such a way that it purifies the air that is discharged from the ventilation system. The husbandry has been very carefully designed and furnished to our specifications. For instance, calves can play with a skippy ball and water nipples have been installed so that they have access to fresh water throughout the day. Moreover, we have installed special feed troughs so that the calves can eat muesli whenever they want. The electricity comes from solar panels on the roof, and we use a woodchip-fired stove to make hot water for the calves' milk.

INTERACTING WITH CALVES IS THE BEST THING THERE IS

For us, intensive interaction with our calves is what running a Peter's farm is all about. Animal dignity is paramount here. We want to know today if there will be anything wrong with the calves tomorrow. Modern IT helps us with this. But an experienced farmer's eye also plays an important role. What we get in return is priceless: the affection of the calves. The calves know you. This is intensely satisfying. The moment when the calves come in and have to learn how to drink is a very special one. All hands are on deck and everyone is caring. 

In addition to our passion for calves, we also have several hobbies. Bieke keeps animals as a hobby and makes delicious jams from fruit in their own garden. I am a car lover myself, especially our beloved Golf 1, which has always stayed in the family. I also like to play music on my keyboard and I use a special computer program to draw beautiful pictures. We also have some fine Hereford cattle grazing in the paddock.
