Our home base is in picturesque Vriezenveen. Our love for calves led us to implement a special rearing system: the Peter's Farm Rosé Better Life system. I am responsible for the ins and outs of rearing. Ylke works full-time as a primary school teacher and, among other things, helps me out when the calves arrive at our farm. I also work three days a week as an engineer on medical equipment.

Calf rearing was something I grew up with; with my grandfather starting off calf farming back in the day. My parents, together with my brother Niels, also have a Peter's Farm in a nearby village. This is where I helped out for many years and occasionally still contribute. We also work closely together and frequently share our knowledge. 

A FUTURE-PROOF LOW EMISSION FARM

Calves are fed unlimited fibrous forage with chopped straw, and we pay attention to the specific needs of each individual animal. I see to it that the animals have sufficient space and comfort, with natural daylight and fresh air. The barns have a well-balanced ventilation system, which ensures that the calves experience a pleasant temperature at all times. We also encourage the natural behaviour of the calves by providing toys and brushes. I want to use my engineering background to make the rearing facility near-emission-free.

What really appeals to us is the freedom of farming outdoors. We enjoy working in the garden together, walking the dog and love active holidays in nature. Ylke enjoys playing the piano, being creative, photography and going to dog sports. I myself like cooking, running with the dog, designing and do-it-yourself projects.
