My parents have kept calves since the early 1970s. From a very early age, I helped feed them, although they probably experienced this more as me 'getting in their way'. That has since changed to running the whole company. Yet this formed the basis of my love for the farm and for animals. I came out of agricultural university in 1998 bursting with heaps of youthful energy and innovative ideas about farming. With the Peter's Farm system, I can pursue my ambitions to my heart's content. As a person, I love animals, and as a young entrepreneur, I look for opportunities to innovate and for challenges. In the future, we would like to welcome children to our farm and introduce them to farm life and nature.
In 1999, we started building a new husbandry to start Peter's Farm. Entrepreneurship is in the blood of veal farmers. We always want to go a step further. Standing still is going backwards. But it must be done in a responsible way, in harmony with creation. In addition to the solar panels, we now have solar collectors to generate energy and a wood-fired central heating system. We also have a solar boiler system to heat the water for the calves' milk. This makes us gas free and almost energy neutral. Nowadays you can no longer make it as a purely economical farmer. You have to stand for something, like we do with Peter's Farm.
