Having grown up among calves, a love for the profession is deeply rooted in our families. John initially ran Peter's Farm together with Bertus. However, since 2024, Bart has taken over this role from his father. Bart proudly continues a family tradition of calf rearing, which began with his grandfather and father in the last century. In short, a family business through and through. You can feel that connection to the business in everything we do. We are always ready to support each other, especially when new calves arrive.
At Peter's Farm, everything revolves around the welfare of the calves. We walk among the animals every day, closely monitoring their health and behaviour. Contact with the calves remains my favourite part of the job. The modern technologies used at Peter's Farm help us to take even better care of the animals.
Sustainability is a priority. Our business is energy neutral, and we store the energy from our solar panels in batteries so that we can use it when needed. The calves live in an environment full of distractions and comforts, including skippy balls, pacifiers and rubbing brushes. It's a real playground for them. The milk for the calves is produced with groundwater that we heat sustainably with a wood-burning stove.
We're always improving, because those who truly care about animal welfare never stop learning and discovering. That's exactly what makes Peter's Farm so unique. Whether it's in the barn, during feeding or when introducing a new group of calves: we really do everything together. Bart, an avid motocross enthusiast, and I, a passionate dog trainer, combine our personal interests with a deep dedication to our profession.
