We are Larissa, Maurice and Silvan (Larissa's brother), and together we run a Peter’s Farm in beautiful Dwingeloo, a village in the municipality of Westerveld, Drenthe. Our farm nestles between meadows, where peace, space and animal wellness come together. The love of animals is deeply rooted in our family. Larissa grew up among the chickens at her parents' poultry farm, and they still actively help out at the company. Her father helps with the cleaning of the barns and lends a hand when things become busy. They also take great pleasure in helping out with milk-feeding the calves.

Rearing calves came across my path by chance, but it turned out to be a perfect match, especially in combination with my other passion: horses. Larissa is a fervent jumper, and when the children are a bit older, she wants to resume being fully active in the sport. Maurice does the bookkeeping and manure processing for the farm, among other things, as well as being an active independent contractor, working as a mechanic and welder and doing earthworks and paving. Silvan is a fanatic and loves running, which he is able to do now and then. He also goes to the gym twice a week.

With love for animals and the company

What appeals to us about this work? The animals, the routine and the space for other things in life. But above all: the satisfaction. We proudly deliver a high-quality product: veal that we believe in. The veal ribeye is a favourite on the barbecue!

We have deliberately chosen the Peter’s Farm Rosé Better Life system. The calves receive unlimited high-fibre fodder with chopped straw, lots of daylight and fresh air. There is plenty of space for natural behaviour: toys in the form of a skippy ball, scrubbing brushes and soothers. Nursing tubs are used as a standard as part of the Better Life certification. In time, we want to renovate the older barn. Each day on the farm confirms for us why we do this work with so much passion. We care for our animals with love, and it gives us incredible satisfaction to see them thrive. That is what we do it for.

• Interesting facts: We were quite honoured that the mayor of Westerveld came to visit us and complimented us on the tidy conditions at the company. The Drents Agricultural Youth Contact organisation (Drents Agrarisch Jongeren Kontakt; DAJK) came by to get acquainted. It is great to see how young farmers are able to support and inspire each other.
