In 2010, we moved back to Albert’s country of birth when we took over a Peter's Farm in Lunteren. Before that, we had a pig farm in Canada for more than seven years. Our company is called "Maatschap 'The Hill'" and everyone in the family is actively involved. Albert is responsible for the general care of the calves; I take care of the accounts and help out during calving; and our five children lend a hand with odd jobs.
Employing technology, completely aimed at promoting animal welfare, was one of the things that appealed to us about Peter's Farm.
Our children regularly have friends come over. They love coming to The Hill because they have lots of space here. Sometimes, they even name a calf, if he stands out, for example, by the special markings of his coat, or by his spots. Some calves even come to you when you call their name, which is something they would never do unless they felt completely comfortable and at ease. To me, that says everything. It's proof that Peter's Farm works.
