Kleijer family

Kees started working for a cattle feed business as a 17 year old and has always reared calves as a hobby. He found the Peter's Farm concept best reflected all his own ideas about how calves should be reared. We are the first generation, but the second generation is already hot on our heels. Our second son Renco helps out at the start of the calving season and beyond.

Be considerate with the world that you pass on to others

We passionately want to spread the Peter's Farm vision of animal welfare. In doing so, we can show the responsibility that we feel for the world around us. We call it stewardship; being economical with the legacy that you leave behind. We have already organised numerous open days. I estimate that so far we’ve had about 3,000 people at our open days. This also includes some dignitaries, such as sheiks from the Middle East, to the former Minister of Agriculture, Piet Veerman.

Personally, I think that the farming profession is often undervalued. When you see how many regulations we have to deal with, you sometimes feel more like an accountant than farmer. We regularly inspect all aspects of our business. Our company participated in a study into animal welfare carried out by the University of Wageningen. What we are really proud of is the system we have developed for separating calf manure. This contributes to truly sustainable calf husbandry. Hopefully, over time, more of Peter's Farm farms can benefit from this innovation. It will only serve to make Peter's Farm stronger.
