Animal Welfare
With an animal-friendly approach to our calves that has been recognised by experts, Peter’s Farm has a demonstrable commitment to animal welfare. Our calves live in herds of around 40 animals, while each calf has the freedom to wander around, play, sleep, eat or ruminate as it likes. Stimulating environments include skippyballs for the calves to play with and brushes to scratch their backs and sides on. Keeping the animals as close to nature as possible supports the calves’ digestive process of cud regurgitation. Furthermore the teats allow calves to meet their natural suckling needs.
Each calf has its own behaviour with ranking
Electronic chips monitor this to ensure the behaviour of individual calves is closely observed. Herd behaviour with a difference, each calf ascertains its own biorhythm. Our approach to animal welfare has been praised by a number of expert bodies. The Wageningen University & Research institution has confirmed calves raised by Peter’s Farm are done so under animal-welfare-friendly conditions.
Scientific research animal welfare
Wageningen University and Research Centre has concluded in a scientific research that the calves on a Peter’s Farm are raised under more animal welfare-friendly conditions compared with calves living in a group housing system.

The Netherlands Nutrition Centre Foundation (Nederlands Voedingscentrum) mentions Peter's Farm on its website as an example of a concept that has extra attention for animal welfare.
